SEWERAGE NETWORK

General information on the management of sewerage networks

Rainwater drainage initially and then sewage, was for several decades and remains today, both a public health problem for the Municipality of Messina and the wider environment, as well as a key factor in its socio-economic development.
The criticality of the problem led from the early 1960s to the search for solutions and was finally expressed in the joint treatment of the problem with the neighboring city of Kalamata, considered the two cities as a single residential unit.
Based on no. 7576700/79 and then T.Y./7107/4372/83 – D.T.Y.N. Messinia – the final facilities for the biological treatment plant were completed – the collecting pipes for sewage transport in B.K. and sections of pipelines of the 2 / nth network in the inner cities.
From 1985, the year of the beginning of the execution of the sewerage works of the Municipality of Messimi until 1993, when the works were practically stopped due to lack of financing, the Municipality had completed the construction:
-the external connection pipe to the biological treatment
-the 1/3 of the 2 / nos (internal) sewage network of the city.
-Also about του of the rainwater drainage network.
Simultaneously with the 23-7-93 program contract of the Municipality with DEYA Kalamata, since the end of 1995 already, most of the urban wastewater, from the internal network that has been constructed and operates, is channeled for treatment in the facilities of B. K.

TECHNICAL DATA

The sewage network of the Municipality of Messina has the following characteristics:

A) SEWERAGE NETWORK

a) External sewage pipeline in B.K.
Length: 5,400 m (5000 pm natural flow -400 pm depressing)
has been completed and is operational

b) Sewage pumping station at the A limits of the city:
has been completed and is operational

c) Secondary-internal city network:
Total length: 50,000 p.m. conductors Φ 200, -250 ο400 – 500
has been constructed and is operational
