DEYAM painting

Ten watercolor paintings, by the Messinian painter, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, that depict corresponding paths of water – landmarks of the Municipality of Messina, where the beauty of the water element sometimes emerges intact in the natural environment and sometimes projects in perfect harmony, with human intervention.

When one looks at the Earth from space, it looks like a blue and white planet, which has the colors of the ocean and the cloud, the colors of the water.

The clouds are angry, traveling or withdrawing silently, ethereally, loaded with the future rains, that will break out on broken mirrors. They are in tune with the huge breath of the oceans and lakes, with the slow creaking of the ice, with the breath of the wandering icebergs, with the cold indifference of the crystal clear waters, flowing in the veins and caves of the open earth, with bouncing off the stone to fill with light, with the turbulence of the torrents that pierce the granites, with the waterfalls that resound like drums, with the slow-flowing rivers that carry rays – shiny topazes, with the relentless rise of the juice and the vegetation with billions of heartbeats.

Water is the universal raw material, that forms and animates everything on earth. Elusive, ambiguous, ubiquitous, necessary and permanent, with proteinaceous forms, it follows – from the pre-eternal night of time – an unchanging cycle, which unfolds its transparency and mutation, its transformation and subtlety.

In its endless space, it erected and swept empires, gave birth to jellyfish and raised huge trees. Humans and all living things, are children of water. And that is their most valuable asset and heritage.
